Add and Edit Variations

You can create new recipe variations, and edit existing variations, from the Recipes page.

Warning

Add variation versus copy variation: while the Recipes page also provides a copy function in the Actions menu for each variation, know that a copy of a variation uses the same graph as the original variation. Any changes made to the graph in the variation copy will also change the graph in the original. The Add Variation function is a safer option because you can select an existing graph or create a new graph.

Add a new variation

  1. Open a kitchen to access the Recipes page.
  2. Select a recipe from the list.
  3. Click Add Variation.
  4. Enter a name.

Variation names must adhere to Automation's object naming rules.

  5. Optional. Enter a description.

  6. Select a graph:

    • Select Use Existing to choose an existing graph in the recipe. Use the drop-down to select the graph.
    • Select Create New to make a new graph. Enter a name, then seed the graph from the list of nodes in the recipe or copy an existing recipe graph in full.

Note that seed nodes appear without edges in the new graph.

  7. Optional. Add override sets.

  8. Optional. Set a schedule.
  9. Optional. Select Use variation as ingredient.
  10. Select Add notes for changelog , describe the changes, then click Add.

The new recipe variation appears in the Variations tab table.
