Set Vault Inheritance¶
Custom kitchen vault connection settings defined in a parent kitchen can be configured as inheritable by child kitchens. The inheritance of these settings applies across generations of child kitchens.
Unlike custom vaults, default kitchen vault settings may not be inherited.
Inheritance considerations¶
- Edit at kitchen of origin: users can modify inheritable, custom connection settings only from within the kitchen where the connection was originally configured. They cannot make edits to these settings from a child kitchen that inherited them.
- Delete kitchens with caution: if a user attempts to delete a kitchen that has child kitchens with inherited vault connections, the system generates a warning to first delete relevant child kitchens.
Set or turn off inheritance¶
- Open the kitchen in Automation.
- Select Secrets from the green menu.
- In the Kitchen Secrets section, click Configure Vault.
- Confirm that in the Configure Kitchen Vault dialog, the Custom option is already selected.
- Check the Inheritable Vault Service to set inheritance, or, uncheck the Inheritable Vault Service to turn off inheritance.
Warning
Connection loss: if a user changes a kitchen vault's connection setting to non-inheritance, and child kitchens exist that previously inherited this connection, the child kitchens will lose their inherited connection.
